From cave paintings to the messages on our cell phones today and modern chatbots, the journey of communication continues unabated. And this is because our need to share stories, ideas, and experiences is something deeply human; it is part of our very nature. In this series of three workshops, come join us on an exciting journey full of discovery and creativity.

1st workshop:

Our Mission: The History of Writing! How did writing begin thousands of years ago, and how did it evolve into the form we know today? We’ll get a close-up look at and try out the first materials humans used for writing (clay, papyrus, and parchment) and explore the different writing systems that helped early civilizations communicate with one another. Because writing was not merely an invention; it completely changed the way people lived and thought. Writing is art, technology, and a turning point in history.

2nd Workshop:

Fast-forwarding to the present day, as we reflect on modern digital means of communication between people, we realize just how important a role the Internet has played in this. In addition, we are studying encryption algorithms that have been used over the years in order to answer the question: How can information be transmitted securely? Finally, we’re getting ready for a mission for skilled problem-solvers. After dividing into groups, we try to find the lost digital messages and decrypt them.

3rd workshop:

Last stop: human-machine communication. We learn how artificial intelligence enables our machines to understand, and more specifically, we explore the technology behind voice recognition, which is used in many applications today. The most important thing? We build our own robot, which we train to respond to our own voice commands. Using the Micro:bit and programming, we bring it to life and interact with it in real time.
