Screening of the documentary “Astropolitics” and an open discussion on the new space race
The Eugenides Foundation is actively participating this year in the Athens International Independent Film Festival (KINO Athens), which is held under the auspices of the European Parliament. On Monday, March 16, at 7:00 p.m., the Eugenides Foundation’s New Digital Planetarium will host a screening of the film “Astropolitics,” offering the audience a unique audiovisual experience exploring the future of humanity beyond Earth’s boundaries.
“Astropolitics”
Directed by Tony Silberfeld and produced by The Bertelsmann Foundation, “Astropolitics” is an ambitious project that explores the competition among the major powers, which extends beyond the planet’s boundaries and into the realm of space. It raises key questions regarding sovereignty, technology, environmental responsibility, and the commercialization of space. As nations and powerful business conglomerates seek to exploit space, expanding the significant opportunities that range from low Earth orbit to the surface of the Moon, there is a serious risk that space competition could spill over into conflict on Earth.

The documentary explores an alternative path for humanity and, through striking imagery and insightful commentary, takes the audience from the Australian outback to the shores of the Panama Canal Panama Canal, from the Basque Country to Washington, D.C., in search of a peaceful and universal approach.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with distinguished scholars and the film’s director on the topic:The Future of Competition Among the Great Powers: A View from Earth to the Moon.
