Why do earthquakes occur, and how are volcanoes formed? What happens deep inside the Earth when tectonic plates move?

Through fascinating experiments and interactive activities, young scientists explore the forces that shape our planet and discover the natural phenomena that change the Earth’s surface.

The Eugenides Foundation presents the Science Show “Little Scientists”: "Earthquakes and Volcanoes", a fascinating experience that invites children ages 8 and up to explore the dynamic world of the Earth.

Through experiments, scientific models, and hands-on activities, participants discover how tectonic plates move, how earthquakes and volcanoes are formed, how seismic waves propagate, and why these natural processes are constantly shaping our planet.

At the same time, they explore how engineers design earthquake-resistant structures, discover how tsunamis are formed, and watch impressive demonstrations that explain volcanic eruptions and the power of geological phenomena.

An interactive experience that transforms geology into a thrilling exploration filled with experiments, observation, and discoveries.

What You'll Discover

How an earthquake occurs and how seismic waves travel

What happens when tectonic plates collide or move, and how is the energy of an earthquake transmitted? Through interactive models and experiments, young scientists discover seismic waves and how they travel through the Earth’s interior, and learn how the energy that causes earthquakes is stored and released, and howmountain ranges are formed.

Earthquake-Resistant Structures

How can buildings withstand an earthquake? Participants observe a seismic table in action and explore how the shape and design of structures affect their resistance to vibrations.

Tsunami: when the sea is rough

How can an undersea earthquake create massive waves? Through

Through a striking demonstration, children discover how tsunamis form and why they can cause widespread destruction.

The Power of Volcanoes

How do volcanic eruptions occur? Through impressive experiments and demonstrations, visitors learn about the processes behind one of the most spectacular natural phenomena on our planet, as well as their effects.

Why the Eugenides Foundation?

The performance takes place at the Eugenides Foundation’s Science and Technology Center, a venue dedicated to experiential learning and the dissemination of science. Through interactive experiences and modern educational approaches, people of all ages have the opportunity to explore the world of science, experiment, and discover knowledge in a creative and participatory way.
