These days, virtual—or voice—assistants are one of the fastest-growing technologies in the world. More than one billion voice searches take place every month. So, how would you feel about building our own app from scratch that supports voice interaction and seeing it work through a virtual assistant?

In this workshop, we’ll learn the process of creating such an app using the online Dialogflow platform. We will explore concepts such as natural language understanding (NLU), artificial intelligence, and conversational flows. We will learn and use basic terms such as intents, entities, parameters, contexts, and events. We will train our program so that it recognizes what is being asked of it and responds accordingly; we will design a complete dialogue flow and conduct many fun tests.

Learning Objectives:

- Participants will become familiar with computer science concepts such as visual programming and natural language understanding (NLU) with the goal of creating a prototype voice application.

- To learn how to use basic programming elements such as entities, intents, and variables.

- To adopt exploratory and algorithmic thinking in order to use information correctly for the implementation of the final application.

- To develop their digital skills and creativity.

- To learn through active participation and the process of trial and error.
