How did science evolve to reach its current form? When does an established view of the world collapse, and how does a new one emerge? How many upheavals in scientific thought preceded our current understanding? This interactive performance traces the history of scientific thought from antiquity to the 19th century, presenting landmark experiments and discoveries that brought us one step closer to our current understanding of the natural world.

The Eugenides Foundation presents the Science Show “Milestones in the Evolution of Science”, a unique scientific journey dedicated to the great ideas that changed the way we interpret nature.

The show does not merely present important scientific discoveries. It highlights the transition from older ways of thinking to new scientific concepts, showing how experimentation replaced simple observation, evidence gradually replaced authority, and how established beliefs were dismantled, making way for the new ideas that were emerging.

We take a journey through the history of science, vividly reenacting historical experiments that challenged the prevailing views of their time. Participants witness the ongoing battle between the "old" and the "new": From the earliest natural philosophers and Galileo’s experiments to the birth of modern chemistry, biology, and electromagnetism.

This is a presentation that not only explains what the scientists discovered, but above all how they learned to ask the right questions, turning the experiment into the most important tool for understanding nature.

What You'll Discover

From Myth to Scientific Thought

How the first Greek natural philosophers sought natural explanations for the world, paving the way for scientific thought.

The Power of Experimentation

How Galileo's experiments forever changed the study of nature by demonstrating that scientific theories must be tested and verified experimentally.

Discovering the Invisible World

The invention of the microscope revealed a world that had been invisible until then, offering a new perspective on the concept and study of life.

The Birth of Modern Chemistry

From alchemy to the chemistry of measurements and experiments. Participants learn how the study of chemical reactions led to the formulation of fundamental laws of matter.

Electricity is changing the world

How did discoveries related to electricity and magnetism pave the way for modern physics in the 20th century?

Why the Eugenides Foundation?

The performance takes place at the Eugenides Foundation’s Center for Science and Technology, a venue dedicated to experiential learning and the dissemination of science. Through interactive experiences and modern educational approaches, people of all ages have the opportunity to explore the world of science, experiment, and discover knowledge in a creative and participatory way.
