A journey of discovery into the subject matter, for 8th-grade students.

The course begins with an introduction to the fundamentals of atomic theory and an exploration of concepts such as atoms and molecules, elements, and chemical compounds. We learn about the properties of matter through fascinating phase-change experiments and see firsthand how a chemical reaction can serve as the “fingerprint” of a substance.

Next, we explore and become familiar with mixtures and solutions, and observe the separation of black ink into its components using the method of chromatography. We also discover that something that looks like a homogeneous solution is not necessarily homogeneous, creating intricate designs with milk and colors.

Finally, we are implementing techniques for separating mixtures into their components and experimenting with factors that affect solubility.
