The following people delivered remarks at the event:

The Deputy Minister of Development, responsible for Research and Innovation, Mr.Stavros Kalafatis, noted: "Only by investing in new knowledge can we better understand the world around us, design solutions based on evidence-based data, and provide support to the real economy, industry, and businesses.” This goal is being put into practice here today through a meaningful initiative by two important organizations with both scientific and social significance. "An initiative that highlights the role of science, innovation, and digital technologies in disseminating knowledge and strengthening social resilience."

The President of the Eugenides Foundation, Mr. Leonidas Dimitriadis-Eugenides, who stated, among other things: “Today’s signing marks the beginning of a collaboration with a specific focus: the use of scientific knowledge, research, and digital tools. We place particular emphasis on the ability to understand and properly use scientific and digital data. In an increasingly complex environment, access to evidence-based knowledge and the ability to evaluate it are essential prerequisites for responsible public debate and rational decision-making. "The National Observatory of Athens, with its long history of scientific achievement and its contribution to evidence-based knowledge, is a key partner for the Eugenides Foundation."

The President of the National Observatory of Athens, Mr. Spyros Vasilakosemphasized: "Through the partnerships we have developed, the Athens Observatory strives to remain closely connected to the public at all times. Our goal is to make a substantial investment in communicating science to the general public and, as institutions, to strengthen our relationship of trust with society. Together with this leading organization, the Eugenides Foundation, we want to jointly create initiatives that will have a comprehensive and lasting impact on the younger generation and beyond. We have already begun planning an international experiment based on Eratosthenes’ method, in collaboration with schools in Greece, the Greek diaspora, and Greek-owned ships, with the goal of measuring the Earth’s radius through a hands-on and participatory scientific process. »

The Director of the Eugenides Foundation, Prof. Ioannis Goliasemphasized: “It is with great pleasure that we are signing a Memorandum of Cooperation between the National Observatory of Athens and the Eugenides Foundation — a partnership with clear strategic and substantive goals, grounded in shared values and complementary roles.” Since its founding, the Eugenides Foundation has consistently pursued a single, steadfast goal: the connection between science, technology, and knowledge and society and the economy through practical applications. Not as abstract concepts, but as practical tools for understanding the world, empowering citizens, and supporting informed decision-making in everyday and public life. On the other hand, the National Observatory of Athens is a historic yet thoroughly modern scientific institution that plays a crucial role in the production of scientific knowledge, the study of natural phenomena, and the provision of reliable data directly relevant to society, the environment, and civil protection. We are convinced that cooperation between our two organizations can address a key challenge of our time: how scientific knowledge can be translated into information that is understandable and applicable in practice, and into benefits for society as a whole."

The remarks highlighted the importance of the partnership between two historic and iconic institutions in the country in the fields of science and education, as well as the role of scientific knowledge, innovation, and digital technologies in empowering society and strengthening social resilience.

The Memorandum of Cooperation establishes the framework for the joint implementation of educational, research, and social initiatives, with an emphasis on:

  1. in the education of students, young people, and teachers on issues related to science, the environment, and digital technologies, using modern and interactive tools,
  2. the application of reliable and evidence-based scientific knowledge to vulnerable social groups, people with disabilities, and residents of remote and outlying areas of the country,
  3. in the development and implementation of innovative, experiential, and inclusive citizen science initiatives

This collaboration is part of a broader strategic vision that links science education to contemporary social challenges and highlights the importance of institutional partnershipsfor the sustainable development of knowledge and innovation in the country.
