“Post-Scientific Literacies in the Age of (Para-)Information,” Erasmus+ (KA2)
SciLMi
The Eugenides Foundation Library is participating as a partner in the new European project “Meta-Scientific Literacies in the (Mis-)Information Age” (“Meta-Scientific Literacies in the (Mis-)Information Age”), which is part of Key Action 2—Skills and Innovation—of the ERASMUS+ Teacher Academy program. The main objective of the project is to provide teachers with the necessary competencies and skills to empower students (in secondary education) to act as capable and effective democratic citizens in a (digital) world inundated with scientific misinformation, misinformation, and disinformation. The three-year project, coordinated by the University of Innsbruck, began on June 1, 2023, and will be completed in May 2026.
The SciLMi Teacher Academy will develop, test, and evaluate interdisciplinary blended programs of intensive mobility and training (BIP, BITs) for trainee and in-service school teachers. It will provide the necessary cross-cutting competencies, digital skills, and inclusive teaching strategies, in order to educate the next generation to engage with social science issues, investigate and evaluate scientific claims and arguments for decision-making and action. Participants in the (BIP, BITs) will be guided in developing lesson plans that encourage teachers to integrate SciLMi skills into their daily teaching practices.
The SciLMi Teacher Academy will create a pan-European network consisting of institutions of initial and continuing education, schools, teachers’ associations, educational authorities, institutions, NGOs, libraries, science centers, etc. The network will participate in the process and facilitate the integration of transdisciplinary literacy skills into education systems across Europe.
The SciLMi Teacher Academy consists of 6 universities, 1 research institute, 1 institutional library, 1 institutional educational program, and 1 NGO, which represent the following distribution of roles within the project:
- 5 Institutions providing initial teacher education:
