He was born in Athens in 1958. In 1980, he graduated from the Department of Economics at the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and subsequently pursued graduate studies in Transportation Economics (MSc Transport Economics) at the PCL in London.
He has been an executive at Evgenidis Enterprises since 1976 and has served as Chairman and CEO since 1995. In 2000, he assumed leadership of the Eugenides Foundation, and to this day he serves as Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Directors.
In 1996, he was elected for the first time as a member of the Union of Greek Shipowners, and from 2003 to 2012 he served as the Union’s Treasurer. He served as a representative of the Union of Greek Shipowners to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Transport and Logistics (M.C.I.T.) and the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.
He was also a member of the Supervisory Board of the National Library of Greece from March through December 2013.
In 2015, he was awarded a prize by the Academy of Athens for the exemplary operation of the Eugenides Planetarium, one of the largest and best-equipped digital planetariums in the world. In 2016, the Eugenides Foundation received the Achievement in Education and Training category at the 2016 Greek Shipping Awards, organized by Lloyd’s List.
Since May 2018, Leonidas Dimitriadis-Eugenides has served as Maritime Ambassador of the IMO (International Maritime Organization), representing Greece in this new institution, whose goal is to attract young people to the maritime profession and highlight the IMO’s contribution to efforts to improve the image of shipping, maritime safety, safety at sea, and the protection of the marine environment.
In recognition of the multifaceted and wide-ranging work that the Eugenides Foundation has consistently carried out for decades in the field of technical education—and specifically maritime education—Leonidas Dimitriadis– Eugenides was awarded an honorary doctorate in June 2018 by the Department of Maritime Studies at the School of Maritime and Industrial Studies of the University of Piraeus.
