The Eugenides Foundation’s New Digital Planetarium, which first welcomed the public in November 2003, is an amphitheater-style space covering 945 m² with a capacity of 278 seats, surrounded by a massive hemispherical dome.

Thanks to its state-of-the-art technical equipment and by combining all the creative and technical capabilities offered by modern audiovisual media and new technologies, it is able to project impressive shows across the entire dome, showcasing developments in astronomy as well as other natural sciences.

The Planetarium has been in operation since 1966

The purpose of the project was to more fully realize the desire and vision of the national benefactor Eugenios Eugenides “to contribute to the education of young people of Greek descent in the scientific and technical fields.”The late Marianthi Simou, sister of national benefactor Eugenios Eugenides, the Foundation’s first administrator and “heart and soul” of the Foundation, decided to create a planetarium on the Foundation’s grounds, following relevant recommendations from its advisors Stavros Plakidis, professor of astronomy at the University of Athens, and Dimitrios Kassapis, curator at the National Technical University of Athens.
