He has served as Rector of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Acting Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation, Acting Minister of Productive Reconstruction, Environment, and Energy, Secretary General of the Ministry of Transportation, Dean of the School of Civil Engineering at NTUA, President of the Athens Urban Transport Organization, Member of the Board of Directors of the Society for the Unification of Archaeological Sites, Vice President of the Athens Municipal Development Corporation, National Representative for the formulation of the EU Framework Research Programs, President of the Association of Greek Transportation Engineers, and member of the National Transportation Council.
He has participated in numerous transportation and feasibility studies and has served as the principal investigator on many research projects in Greece and the European Union. He has also been actively involved in the fields of maritime education and technical skills related to emerging technologies and the blue economy, which he has presented at various conferences and in various publications. He has published more than 250 articles in scientific journals and conference proceedings, with more than 9,000 citations.
