From cave paintings to the text messages on our phones today and modern chatbots, the journey of communication continues without pause. And this is because our need to share stories, ideas, and experiences is deeply human, it is part of our very nature. In this series of three workshops, come join us on an exciting journey full of discovery and creativity.
Workshop 1:
Our mission: the story of writing! How did writing begin thousands of years ago, and how did it change until it reached the form we know today? We get to know up close—and try out—the first materials humans used for writing (clay, papyrus, and parchment), and we explore different writing systems that helped early civilizations communicate with one another. Because writing was not simply an invention; it completely changed the way people lived and thought. Writing is art, technology, and a turning point in history.
Workshop 2:
We move to the present day and, reflecting on modern digital means of communication between people, we discover how important a role the internet has played. We also study encryption codes that have been used throughout history to answer the question: how can information be transmitted securely? Finally, we get ready for a mission for strong problem-solvers. After splitting into teams, we try to find the lost digital messages and decode them.
Workshop 3:
Final stop: communication between humans and machines. We learn how, with artificial intelligence, machines understand us, and more specifically we explore speech recognition technology, which is used in many applications today. The most important part? We build our own robot and train it to respond to our own voice commands. Using micro:bit tools and programming, we bring it to life and interact with it in real time.
This series of workshops is conducted in the Greek language.
