Have you ever wondered how we communicate with spacecrafts that are far away from Earth? Now’s the time to explore it! How? By creating our very own space-themed game.
Radio waves and the microbit will be our main “assistants” in understanding and simulating space communication. In the Scratch environment, we’ll introduce the key characters of our game: the radio antenna, the spacecraft, and the radio waves ‒ and we’ll program them ourselves.
Next stop: the Main Asteroid Belt. Our mission is to identify the largest asteroids and “prevent” them from reaching Earth. The journey continues with a visit to Jupiter and Saturn, where we’ll “take” many photos and send them back to Earth. Finally, we’ll learn what happens to spacecraft when they get old and design the ending of our game.
The goal of this space adventure is threefold:
- To get to know radio waves, famous space missions, asteroids, and the planets of our solar system.
- To be introduced to and become familiar with basic programming commands (variables, control structures, loops, cloning, etc.).
- And last but not least ‒ to play the game using a microbit as a remote control!
The workshop is conducted in the Greek language.
